Tennis thought differently

Red Bull Bassline is not a regular tennis tournament: As the kick-off of the Erste Bank Open, six of the best players in the world gather for a unique tie-break tournament played while the DJ drops the beats. New in 2024: Due to the great fan response, Red Bull BassLine was moved from Heumarkt to the Wiener Stadthalle, where six of the best players in the world will came together for this unique event on October 18, 2024, for the first serve of the Erste Bank Open

Zverev defends title

The fourth edition of Red Bull BassLine went to Germany's Alexander Zverev, just like in 2023. In his preliminary round matches, the German defeated the young Austrian star Joel Schwärzler 2:1 on his Stadthall debut, followed by Italy's Matteo Berrettini 2:0. In the final, Zverev faced Australia's Alexei Popyrin, who had beaten Japan's Kei Nishikori and Italy's Alexei Popyrin in his group matches. In the final, Zverev fended off three match points in a row in the deciding set and won the match and the tournament with his first match point..

Red Bull Bassline 2023 Entertainment

At Red Bull BassLine, fans are closer than ever to the players, who can warm up on ergometers right next to the court between their stints and interact with the spectators. From the first serve to the decision in the final, the event lasts around three hours as the sets are directly decided in tie-break format. Red Bull BassLine also brings other innovations to the court. For example, a DJ heats up the fans even during the rallies.

The tournament is interactive, the referee is omitted - should it be necessary, the players decide for themselves. A moderator conducts interviews with the players on the court between points and captures expert voices of the other participants in the athletes' zone. The task of the line judges is covered by "electronic line calling". Is the pulse at 180 or is the player relaxed and not letting anything get to him? Fans can find out all this through the interactive data shown exclusively to viewers.

These are the rules

  • Six players compete in a tie-break tournament. Short tie breaks up to 5 points are played. The matches will be decided in a best-of-three format.
  • The best two players will be seeded as top players of the two groups. The remaining 4 players will be drawn into the groups.
  • The group-matches are played in the Round-Robin format.
  • The coin toss decides which player begins to serve
  • Short tie break to 5 - whoever has 5 points first wins the set - possible outcomes: 5-0, 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, 5-4
